Riding boots that match the majesty of the world’s most beautiful horses....

It’s no wonder the Spanish make such beautiful riding boots when you see the inspiration that nature provides them with.

Iberian horses are some of the finest, most statuesque breeds in the world and, this month, we’re focusing on two of the best: the Andalusians and the Lusitano.

Andalusian Horses: their history

Andalusians are also known as Pure Spanish Horses and have been recognised as a breed since the 15th Century. They are the perfect mix of strength and elegance and are known for their sensitive and docile natures.

The horses were originally intended for both riding and driving but the modern breed excels at dressage and show jumping.

Andalusian Horses: what you didn’t know

The Carthusian strain is considered to be the purest of the Andalusians. They are occasionally born with horns, not of unicorn dimensions but rather small calcium deposits on the temple or slight bumps behind the ear. These are a characteristic that can be traced back to their foundation stallion, Esclavo.

Which Spanish Boot Company boot is most like an Andalusian?

We’d have to go for our classic boot, which has the same mix of strength and elegance that comes from its durable good-year welted soles and intricate brogue detail. If you’re hankering after the unicorn horn extra detail, why not pick a contrasting detachable tassel from our wide range?

Lusitano Horses: their history

The Lusitano is actually a Portuguese breed which is closely related to the Spanish Andalusian. This horse is powerful and statuesque, with an easily recognisable thick, arched neck. They are powerful, yet agile and known for their dressage skills. In fact the entire Portuguese team rode Lusitanos at the 2006 World Equestrian Games

Lusitano Horses: what you didn’t know

The Lusitano takes its name from Lusitania, the ancient Roman name for the area now known as Portugal.

Roman legend claims that Lusitano mares were sired by the West wind, hence their amazing swiftness which they then passed on to their foals.

It’s a clear choice: our wave boot echoes the arched neck of this fantastic breed. Again, its durable flat rubber sole provides the strength of design and the brown leather ages to appear nubuck-like. Hand-crafted, with a covered zip, this boot is in a league of its own
